Founder & director, Sustainable Living Lab
Veerappan Swaminathan's life goal is to leave things better than when he found them, so it makes sense that his for-profit social enterprise-cum-innovation lab, Sustainable Living Lab (SL2), is doing exactly that. It has consulted for and collaborated with forward-thinking companies across Asia such as A*Star, Intel, Applied Materials and Bosch to help them build a more sustainable future. Case in point: his company worked with leading Japanese packaging closure manufacturer Nippon Closures to design bottle caps that are easier for the elderly and persons with disabilities to use. Through SL2, the 32-year-old hopes to inspire companies and organisations to "view the act of being environmentally, socially and economically sustainable as a 'need to have' rather than a 'nice to have'."
