Vivian Yang is the daughter of Yang Wen-pin, the late chairman of Sinon Group. To help her father realise his dream of producing quality wines which represent the terroir of Taiwan, she returned from the US to Taiwan and established Weightstone Vineyard Estate & Winery with him. She first used Musann Blanc, a grape variety beloved by her father and growing in agricultural improvement stations in Taiwan, to produce aromatic white wines. In addition, she produced the first batch of sparkling wines in Taiwan with the Golden Muscat and Black Queen cultivated by contracted vine growers in Houli and Erlin and made using the traditional method for producing champagne. The sparkling wines were highly praised by domestic industry experts when they officially made their debut on the market at the end of 2016. It is not easy to produce lively and delicate white wines and traditional method-based sparkling wines in Taiwan, a place with an atypical–subtropical climate, but the wines have been granted awards at 17 international wine competitions over the past two years, and Weightstone was named one of the 13 Most Innovative Chateaux in the world by WORLD FINANCE magazine in 2018.
