Why him? AIME, the start-up founded by Dhesi in 2015, combines artificial intelligence and epidemiological research to predict outbreaks of disease up to three months in advance.
The biz The 32-year-old doctor is currently planning a global expansion, offering a potentially invaluable service for governments, as well as insurance and drug companies.

Why her? As CEO of Inmagine Group, which encompasses some of the world’s largest stock image companies, including 123rf.com, Stockunlimited.com, Designs.net and Inmagine.com, Stephanie drives the group’s global sales and marketing efforts.
The biz Having co-founded the group on a shoestring in 2000, she now oversees more than 400 employees in 44 countries and a content portfolio of over 65 million unique files.

Why him? Gen.T lister Tan co-founded the ride-sharing platform Grab in 2012 with fellow 2017 lister Hooi Ling Tan, whom he met at Harvard Business School. They’ve since built it into Southeast Asia’s leading Uber-style platform—a US$3 billion business operating in over 30 cities.
Back story Tan’s great-grandfather was a taxi driver and his grandfather started the Japanese auto industry in Malaysia, so cars are in his blood.

Why him? Ng’s start-up, Aemulus, designs automatic testing devices for the semiconductor sector. The company recently saw a five-fold increase in Q3 net profit, compared with the same period in 2016.
Back story After a bout of nasty office politics in 2004, Ng ditched his job and started Aemulus. By 2015, the company was publicly listed on the ACE market of Bursa Malaysia.
