Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region received more than 265 million in 2023, an increase of more than 117% year on year, reaching a new record.

The province’s tourism revenue rose nearly 230 percent to more than 296 billion yuan ($42 billion) in 2023, according to the responsible regional department. Tourism has played an important role in promoting jobs and economic development in Xinjiang. In 2023, the region had more than 370,000 commercial tourism entities and 560 new agencies, while around 25,000 tour guides were involved in the sector.

Xinjiang has seen growth in ice and snow tourism in recent years. During this year’s New Year holiday, the region welcomed more than 1.66 million visitors, increasing more than 195% compared to last year.
