Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim will pay an Official Visit to the State of Qatar from May 12 to 14, 2024, at the invitation of the Emir of the State of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Minister of Higher Education Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.

The Prime Minister’s inaugural visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Qatar.

The Prime Minister will be received at an Official Welcome Ceremony by the Emir of the State of Qatar and will also grant an audience to the latter.

The visit will also include a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. Both leaders are expected to discuss the progress of bilateral relations, particularly economic cooperation, education, as well as exchange views on regional and international issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During his stay in Doha, the Prime Minister will participate in the 4th Qatari Economy Forum (QEF) 2024, where he will meet with captains of Qatari industry and potential investors eager to participate in Qatari Economy initiatives. The Prime Minister will also meet the Malaysian diaspora in Doha.

This official visit is expected to further cement the longstanding relations and multi-faceted cooperation between Malaysia and Qatar. From January to March 2024, Malaysia’s total trade with Qatar increased by 178.4% to reach RM1.43 billion (US$303.9 million), up from RM514.9 million (116.7 million USD) of the corresponding period of 2023. In 2023, Qatar was Malaysia’s fifth largest trading partner, sixth largest export destination and sixth largest source of imports in the West Asia region.
