China and Vietnam agreed on Tuesday to build a community with a shared future that has strategic significance. The two sides announced the new position in relations during the state visit of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese president, to Vietnam.

Xi attended a welcoming ceremony held by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong. After the ceremony, Xi met with Trong and mentioned that he was very happy to visit Vietnam, as promised, and conclude the third round of mutual visits between the two leaders. China is satisfied with the achievements made by Vietnam in the past nearly 40 years of “Doi Moi”, the cause of the country’s reform, especially since the 13th CPC National Congress, Xi said.

For his part, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, Trong warmly welcomed Xi’s state visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership between Vietnam and China and , once again, extended his sincere congratulations on the main innovation achievements, in theory and practice, obtained at the 20th National Congress of the CPC.
