Beijing will add more green spaces in 2024 with the aim that 90% of residents will enjoy parks and small green areas within 500 meters, according to the recently concluded work conference of the Municipal Forestry and Parks Department.

The city plans to complete afforestation of 10,000 mu (667 hectares) while adding another 200 hectares of urban green space in 2024, said Gao Dawei, head of the department. Beijing will add 15 leisure parks and urban forests, as well as 50 mini parks and small green areas by 2024, according to the conference.

The Chinese capital has more than a thousand parks of various types, with the per capita coverage of green spaces standing at 17 square meters.
