The Emperor Qinshihuang Mausoleum Museum in northwest China announced on Wednesday that it will collaborate with its French counterpart in restoring Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and protecting the Terracotta Warriors.
Collaborative research carried out with France’s Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine mainly focuses on protecting wooden remains and clay archaeological sites, according to the museum located in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
Specifically, research into the protection of wooden remains will involve joint efforts to preserve and restore fire-damaged wood from Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and the Mausoleum of Emperor Qinshihuang. In addition, joint efforts will be made to carry out studies on its historical importance.
The research will also include identification of wood species, assessment of preservation status, degradation mechanisms and protection techniques and methods. In the future, the two parties will jointly explore the material properties and historical value of the wooden remains and archaeological sites of the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
