Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin in Beijing on Wednesday. Noting that since the beginning of this year he has met with President Putin twice, Xi said that the two countries’ governments, legislative bodies, political parties and localities have held in-depth exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has developed in a solid and stable manner. .

In the first 11 months of this year, bilateral trade between China and Russia has reached the annual trade volume target of US$200 billion jointly set by the two heads of state, which shows the strong resilience and broad prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries, according to Xi.

He stressed that maintaining and developing China-Russia relations is a strategic choice made by both sides based on the fundamental interests of the two peoples.

The 28th regular meeting between the two heads of government was held on Tuesday. Mishustin stressed that Russia is pleased with the steady growth of bilateral practical cooperation and is willing to work with China to further explore the potential, expand cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, energy and connectivity, make the Cultural Year a success and consolidate eternal friendship between the two peoples.

The Russian prime minister also conveyed the Russian government and people’s condolences to Xi over the earthquake that hit northwest China’s Gansu Province, saying Russia is willing to provide rescue assistance as per China’s needs.
