Chinese President Xi Jinping called for efforts to make more people aware of the Great Wall and involve more people in its protection to pass on the precious heritage of ancestors to future generations.

Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a response letter sent on Tuesday to residents living at the foot of the Great Wall of Badaling, in a suburban suburb. north of Beijing.

Residents of Shixia Village in Yanqing County recently wrote to Xi, reporting on their work protecting the Great Wall and the changes taking place in the village.

In the response letter, Xi said he was pleased to learn that villagers have taken the initiative over the years to protect the Great Wall, inherit the Great Wall’s culture and rely on its resources on their path to prosperity.

The Great Wall is a representative symbol of the Chinese nation and an important symbol of Chinese civilization, Xi said. β€œIt is our common responsibility to protect and pass on this historical and cultural heritage.”

Xi expressed the hope that villagers will continue to protect the Great Wall while protecting their homes, carry forward the Great Wall culture and tell stories about the Great Wall well.
