Ingredients

  • Massa
  • 2 cups of wheat flour

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into cubes

  • 4 to 6 tablespoons of ice water

  • Filling
  • 2 cans of sardines in oil, drained and shredded

  • 1 medium onion chopped

  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 1 chopped tomato (optional)

  • 1/2 chopped pepper (optional)

  • Chopped olives to taste

  • Chopped parsley and chives to taste

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  • 1 cup of milk

Preparation mode

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • For the dough, in a bowl, mix the wheat flour and salt. Add the cold butter and mix with your fingertips until you have a crumb-like texture. Add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough starts to come together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  • While the dough is resting in the fridge, prepare the filling. In a frying pan, heat the oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden. Add the tomato and pepper, if using, and sauté for a few more minutes. Add the shredded sardines, olives, parsley, chives, salt and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes, stirring well. Reserve.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and line the bottom and sides of a pie dish.
  • Spread the sardine filling over the dough.
  • In a bowl, beat the eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Pour this mixture over the filling in the mold.
  • Place in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 30 to 40 minutes, or until the pie is golden and firm.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
