The 2024 edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s leading trade show for mobile technology and related industries, opened in Barcelona, Spain, on Monday.

This year’s MWC has around 2,400 exhibitors, including around 300 Chinese companies such as China Mobile, China Telecom, Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, Xiaomi and iFlytek.

Chinese operators are capturing new business-to-business opportunities in verticals where their services go beyond traditional telecommunications, noted GSMA director general Mats Granryd.

The GSMA, organizer of the event, expects around 95,000 visitors from around the world to attend the congress on Barcelona’s Gran Via, compared to the 88,500 registered last year. Applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in devices and networks, advances in 5G and 6G technologies, as well as improving connectivity will be among the main topics of this year’s event.
