Japanese authorities on Monday ordered the evacuation of about 360,000 residents in the city of Kumamoto, on the southwestern island of Kyushu, due to torrential rains.

The rain has already caused the collapse of a bridge in that region.

On Saturday, the storm had caused one dead and two people were reported missing, in the west of the country.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of continued storms through midday on Tuesday and the possibility of flooding and landslides.
