China has announced that it will increase additional tariffs on imported products from the United States to 84%, from 12:01 am on Thursday (beijing time), according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Council of State Customs Commission.
The measure comes in response to the US decision to raise so -called “reciprocal tariffs” about Chinese products from 34% to 84%. For the Chinese government, this decision “goes even further on the wrong way” and represents a serious violation of China’s legitimate rights and interests.
Beijing classified action as a typical act of unilateralism, protectionism and economic intimidation, with a negative impact on the multilateral trade system based on rules and the stability of the global economy.
China has asked the United States to immediately correct their measures, eliminate unilateral tariffs imposed on China and resume trade negotiations based on mutual respect and equality.
