The second Japanese indicator, the topix, lost 2.45% or 68.27 points to 2,720.39 points.
Donald Trump signed three executive orders on Saturday to impose 25% rates on the generality of imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% to imports from Chinawhich come into force this Tuesday. Canada oil imports will be taxed by 10%.
Automobile manufacturers performed on Monday a particularly weak performance on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, as many have production factories in Mexico.
A Toyota fell 5.01%, while the other two largest manufacturers in the country, Honda and Nissan, lost 7.2% and 5.63%respectively.
