Xi Jinping celebrates the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China

In a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping gave a speech highlighting the Chinese people’s commitment to peace, development and modernization of the country. The event, which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), was attended by senior leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and nearly 3,000 guests, both Chinese and foreign.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the achievements of the Chinese people in these 75 years and expressed gratitude to compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as the Chinese residents abroad and to friendly countries that have supported China’s development. In his speech, the president stressed that China will continue to make significant contributions to the peace and progress of humanity.

The president stressed that the country’s central task in this “new era and new expedition” is to turn China into a strong nation and achieve national revitalization through Chinese-style modernization. He said the best way to celebrate the anniversary of the PRC is to steadily advance this great cause.

During his speech, Xi reiterated the importance of maintaining the leadership of the Communist Party of China and following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In addition, he highlighted the need to deepen reforms, expand opening to the world and adopt an approach focused on the needs of the people. The president also stressed China’s commitment to peaceful development, in a context of growing global challenges.

Regarding Hong Kong and Macau, Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of implementing the “one country, two systems” policy, which allows both regions to maintain a high degree of autonomy. He also called for promoting long-term stability and prosperity in these regions, crucial for China’s territorial integrity and economic growth.

Regarding Taiwan, Xi reaffirmed that it is an integral part of Chinese territory and advocated the strengthening of economic and cultural exchanges between both sides of the Strait. At the same time, he reiterated his opposition to any separatist attempt that promotes the independence of Taiwan, making it clear that China will remain firm in defending its territorial integrity.

At the international level, Xi Jinping stressed that the people of all countries share a common destiny, and reiterated China’s commitment to building a global community with a shared future. This concept, which has been central to China’s foreign policy under Xi’s leadership, seeks to promote global cooperation and development, in the face of the challenges and risks facing humanity in the 21st century.

Despite China’s progress over the past 75 years, Xi also warned of potential risks and challenges ahead, highlighting the importance of being prepared to face uncertainties and unexpected dangers. He called for unity and joint efforts to overcome any obstacle that arises on the path to development.

On the eve of this important anniversary, Xi also presided over a ceremony in which national medals and honorary titles, the highest state honors, were awarded to 15 prominent personalities. Among those awarded were veteran war hero Huang Zongde, who received the Republic Medal, and former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, current president of the New Development Bank, who was awarded the Friendship Medal for her contributions to strengthening of relations between China and Brazil.
