Tesla’s factory in Shanghai reached a new milestone on Wednesday, reaching 2 million vehicles manufactured. In January 2019, the automaker’s first gigafactory outside the United States began construction and produced the first vehicle in December of the same year.
The installation took more than 30 months to reach the milestone of 1 million vehicles produced, but in less than 13 months it reached 2 million. “Tesla’s increase in production speed is inseparable from the superior business environment in Shanghai, especially the Lin-gang special area of ​​the pilot free trade zone,” said Song Gang, senior director of manufacturing for Tesla.
In the first eight months of this year, Tesla’s factory delivered more than 600,000 vehicles, surpassing its 2021 total, and has become a global export hub whose cars are now selling well in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America.
