Chinese fashion retailer Shein announced an incubation program to foster Brazilian designs and creations. O Desafio Shein X offers financial assistance of up to R$25,000, in addition to a commission on the sales value of the pieces created.
Before arriving in Brazil, the initiative has been carried out in other countries since 2021 and has already enabled the launch of 41 thousand pieces, created by more than 4.6 thousand artists, according to the Chinese company. To participate, you must be Brazilian and create a portfolio or works of art for digital submission. It is not necessary to be a professional in the field. Candidates must register through an online platform by February 15th.
“Competitions like the Shein X Challenge are crucial because there is an abundance of raw talent waiting to be discovered. Providing these aspiring designers with platforms allows them to express their creativity and showcase their designs,” said British fashion journalist Jill Wanless, who will be one of the judges for this edition of the show, in a press release.
In 2023, Shein agreed with the Brazilian government to invest R$750 million over three years, for the development of products in 2,000 national factories, according to Folha de S.Paulo. However, the company told the publication that it will continue to produce parts for the program in China for now.
