China’s national news agency Xinhua opened a photo exhibition documenting the country’s historic transformation in recent decades. The exhibition opened at the National Financial Information Center in Beijing just days before October 1, when the People’s Republic of China celebrates its 75th founding anniversary.

On display are nearly 500 photographs spanning various historical periods, selected from Xinhua’s collection of more than 10 million images, the country’s largest photo archive.

Fu Hua, chairman of Xinhua, said the agency is dedicated to capturing the essence of the times through images and has the fundamental responsibility of recording historical events for the Party and the people.

Using a journalistic perspective to portray social changes, the exhibition brings together fragments of national and collective memories, ensuring their place in history, Fu said.

“The exhibition documented the nation’s glorious development journey and its march towards prosperity,” Fu noted. “In the new journey, we will continue to collaborate with our media colleagues and relevant organizations, using our pens and lenses to contribute to building a strong China and promoting national revitalization,” he added.
