Philippine Foreign Affairs meets with Lithuanian counterpart

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo met with his Lithuanian counterpart, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 in Manila.

The Foreign Ministers discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest. Secretary Manalo expressed his appreciation for the Foreign Minister’s statement following the water cannon incident in the West Philippine Sea in early December 2023, and Lithuania’s clear expression of solidarity with the Philippines and its support for the Arbitration Award 2016. Both countries consider themselves like-minded partners who support the preservation of the rules-based international order.

Secretary Manalo and Minister Landsbergis affirmed their commitment to further deepening relations between the Philippines and Lithuania. The two countries are working on various forms of cooperation, such as trade and investment, clean energy, science and technology, including healthcare and laser technology, and people-to-people ties.

Philippines reaffirms its commitment to protecting the oceans

To boost economic exchanges, the Lithuanian foreign minister brought with him a business delegation interested in partnering with their Filipino counterparts in the fields of energy and information and communication technologies.

In the presence of the two ministers, two agreements were signed, one between the Philippine Football Federation and the Lithuanian Football Federation, and another between the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation.

Both countries consider themselves like-minded partners who support the preservation of the rules-based international order.

Secretary Manalo and Minister Landsbergis signed a joint statement highlighting common understanding and positions on regional and international issues, as well as our commitment to pursue various areas of cooperation.

The ministers also look forward to the inaugural political consultations between the Philippines and Lithuania in June 2024 in Manila, signaling their commitment to maintaining diplomatic exchanges and deepening their bilateral relations.
