Beatboxing is still a fairly niche genre in Singapore, but that didn’t stop Dharni Ng from developing an interest in it growing up. The 32-year-old’s passion later fuelled his journeys around the world to perform the occasional gig, but his big break came when he won a talent show in Warsaw, Poland. Dharni has since gone on to claim the title of Emperor of the Mic in 2011, and became the first person in history to win the prestigious Grand Beatbox Battle Championship twice in a row in 2014. He has also opened for the Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West and Lady Gaga, and performed alongside Mariah Carey. A video of a Chinese Weibo user trying to learn his skills even went viral in 2017.
