Ingredients

  • 2 cups cornmeal

  • 2 cups grated cheese (traditionally, semi-cured cheese)

  • 2 cups of milk

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 4 tablespoons butter or oil

  • Salt to taste

Preparation mode

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • In a frying pan, sauté the onion in butter or oil until soft and translucent. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, grated cheese and a pinch of salt.
  • Add the beaten eggs and milk to the cornmeal mixture and stir well until all ingredients are combined.
  • Add the sautéed onion to the mixture and stir again.
  • Grease a baking dish with butter or oil and pour the mixture into it.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the soup is set.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
