1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup orange juice (approximately the juice of 2 oranges)
1 tablespoon orange zest
2 cups of wheat flour
1 tablespoon powdered yeast
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons of sugar
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Unite a round shape with butter and wheat flour.
- In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until fluffy and pale.
- Add the oil, orange juice and orange zest to the egg and sugar mixture. Stir well to combine the ingredients.
- Add the sifted wheat flour to the cake batter, little by little, mixing gently until smooth. Do not overmix to prevent the cake from becoming heavy.
- Add the baking powder and gently mix until incorporated into the dough.
- Pour the dough into the prepared mold and level the surface with a spatula.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
- While the cake bakes, prepare the syrup (optional): in a small saucepan, combine the orange juice and sugar. Place over medium heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, until the syrup has reduced slightly and thickened slightly.
