China’s electricity consumption, an important parameter of the country’s economic activity, increased by almost 7% in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to official data released this Thursday.
Electricity use reached 9.2 trillion kilowatt-hours last year, according to the National Energy Administration, while consumption in the primary sector increased by 11.5% from the previous year, and in the secondary and tertiary sectors by 6. 5% and 12.2%, respectively.
Residential electricity use saw a slight % increase to 1.35 trillion kilowatt-hours, the administration said.
