The Chinese capital will host, on April 13, a half marathon in which humanoid robots will run alongside human athletes, following separated routes by barriers to ensure safety. The event will be held in the area of Beijing Economic-Technological Development, and in August, an exclusive sports competition for humanoid robots is also planned.
Participating robots must have a biped design and will be evaluated by the time of completion and the number of replacements made throughout the race, with penalties for each exchange. Teams may use remote control or autonomous operation, and the best performances will be awarded with values between 3,000 and 5,000 yuans.
The event highlights the rapid growth of the robotic industry in China, which moved 2.76 billion yuans by 2023 and can reach 75 billion by 2029. Technology advances reinforces robots in sectors such as industrial automation, health and services.
