ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) for the ASEAN Economic Community Satvinder Singh and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to ASEAN Lee Jang-Keun launched the ASEAN-ROK Project on Critical Minerals Management and Strategy for Sustainable Environment in ASEAN on July 1 in Jakarta.
The project will provide a series of trainings to ASEAN officials to improve knowledge in critical mineral exploration, including the use of smart mineral exploration technology and real-time data platform.
It will also compile and update geological and mineral deposit maps of ASEAN Member States to support the provision of data sets that effectively attract the attention of investors and aid the development of critical minerals in the region.

DSG Singh, in his remarks, extended his gratitude to the Republic of Korea and highlighted that the project will contribute to advancing digital transformation in the mineral sector in ASEAN, which is crucial to increasing not only sustainability but also efficiency and safety in the industry.

Along with Ambassador Lee, DSG Singh expressed his gratitude to the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programs in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP), the Geological Agency of Indonesia and the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), the co-proposing and implementing agencies of the project.
