The Incheon-Mexico City route, of the airline Aeroméxico, will resume starting in August, as announced by Pasquale Speranza, vice president of sales of the Mexican airline.
During a briefing held in Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo León, Speranza announced that the resumption of the route will offer convenient flights to residents and businessmen traveling between the two countries and will serve as a bridge connecting both regions.
The resumption of the direct route between Incheon and Mexico City occurs after two years, since it was temporarily suspended in June 2022.
South Korea’s strategy in Africa
Flights departing from Incheon and arriving in Mexico City will operate daily starting August 1. To return to Incheon you have to stop in Monterrey.
The city of Monterrey, which is considered the “industrial capital of Mexico,” and surrounding cities are home to about 300 legal entities related to South Korean companies, such as LG Electronics and Kia. There are around 3,000 South Korean residents in the region, and the number is estimated to rise to 4,000 if business visitors and temporary residents are added.
The Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, explained that the resumption of the direct route will be of great help to South Korean residents and companies in Mexico, and expressed her hope to develop new tourism products to attract more South Korean visitors.
Han Ki-chul, CEO of the Adstra Group, a South Korean entertainment and tourism company, based in Mexico City and Monterrey, stated that the direct route between both countries will help further activate bilateral exchanges, given the growing popularity of K-pop music in the Latin American country.
