Specifically, many companies have experienced sales increases of up to 70-80% by joining cross-border e-commerce platforms. This shows that digital transformation and technological application have improved the value and competitiveness of products in the international market, as well as saving time and operating costs.
Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of the E-Commerce Development Center under the Vietnam Agency for E-Commerce and Digital Economy under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIT), stated that last year, while online retail sales in Vietnam reached USD 16.4 billion, the Vietnamese digital economy was nearly USD 23 billion, and is projected to reach USD 49 billion by 2025.
Regulators have recently partnered with online retail giants such as Amazon and Alibaba to hold training courses to equip Vietnamese micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with export knowledge and skills. Last year, up to 1,300 MSMEs benefited from the courses and set up booths on Amazon and Alibaba.
Statistics show that the mountainous province of Son La in the north of the country is home to some 3,250 companies and 806 cooperatives that have used social media and e-commerce platforms to promote and sell agricultural products. Since the beginning of this year, more than 500 tons of fruits from Son La farmers have been sold through e-commerce platforms.
Specifically, many companies have experienced sales increases of up to 70-80% by joining cross-border e-commerce platforms.
To improve the efficiency of exporting and selling Vietnamese products through e-commerce, the MoIT has partnered with localities to carry out various e-commerce connectivity plans, helping thousands of companies to access the methods of distribution and cultivate the habit of online shopping.
In the near future, the MoIT will also continue to focus on enhancing enforcement capacity and developing e-commerce, especially cross-border.
