Minister Balakrishnan expressed Singapore’s deep concern over the grave humanitarian situation in Gaza. An immediate humanitarian ceasefire will allow the effective delivery of aid to affected civilians in Gaza.

Minister Balakrishnan briefed leaders on Singapore’s humanitarian aid to Gaza, including the third tranche of aid that has been sent through Jordan and the $6.1 million donated by the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation to the United Nations United Nations for Palestinian Refugees in the Middle East.

Minister Balakrishnan underlined Singapore’s support for a negotiated two-state solution, consistent with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, in which Palestinians and Israelis live side by side in peace and security. He expressed Singapore’s hope that both sides will engage in direct negotiations on a two-state solution as it is the only viable path to a just and lasting comprehensive peace.

Minister Balakrishnan also reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to supporting the PA’s training efforts in the civil service and digital government. More than 700 PA civil servants have benefited from postgraduate training programs and scholarships provided by Singapore.

The opening of the Singapore Representative Office in Ramallah in October 2022 has expanded the scope and strengthened the provision of Singapore’s technical assistance to the PA.

During the visit, Minister Balakrishnan and MPs also met Palestinian alumni of the Singapore Cooperation Program during an iftar.
