The new building of the Yinxu Museum in Anyang District, central China’s Henan Province, was officially opened to the public on Monday.

Located near the Yin Ruins archaeological site, where the last capital of the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-1046 BC) was located, the expanded Yinxu Museum is the first major national archaeological museum to comprehensively present the Shang civilization.

The new building has an exhibition area of 22,000 square meters, where around 4,000 items or sets of cultural relics, including bronze, ceramics, jade objects and oracle bones, are on display. About three-quarters of these relics are being displayed to the public for the first time, along with several new achievements achieved in relevant archaeological endeavors.

Museum visitors can purchase tickets through the Yinxu Museum’s official website, as well as the public WeChat accounts of the museum and Yinxu Scenic Area.

The old museum building was constructed in 2005. As archaeological work in the Yin Ruins continued to produce results, the building’s 1,500 square meter exhibition area became insufficient to effectively conserve and display the relics. This triggered planning for the new building, construction of which began in November 2020.
