The president and CEO of YPF, Horacio Marín, was received by the president of Toyota Argentina, Gustavo Salinas, at the automaker’s plant in the town of Zárate. This first meeting allowed the YPF authorities to learn about the implementation of the Toyota Production System (TPS), the productive method of continuous improvement that allows Toyota to be a model company of productivity and sustainability worldwide.
TPS is a work philosophy developed throughout Toyota’s history that has been studied around the world. It is a way of doing things that has just-in-time and “Jidoka” as its pillars, which can be translated as “automation with a human touch.” It is based on the premise of making work easier for people by eliminating “duda”, that is, useless processes, which do not contribute to the final objective, always seeking continuous improvement or “Kaizen”. TPS applies to all areas of Toyota, from production to customer service. And it is adaptable to any productive or administrative process.
Toyota Argentina collaborates with other companies and organizations to apply the TPS in their own activities. YPF Luz is one of them, which incorporated it in 2021 and has obtained significant improvements in its purchasing, foreign trade and materials delivery processes.

“Within the framework of the Strategic Plan that we announced at YPF, we seek to focus on the definition of world-class standards to be efficient, reduce costs and increase productivity. To achieve this objective, we came to Toyota, with whom we have a strategic link, with the purpose of knowing and learning from them based on the TPS methodology,” stated Horacio Marín, the company’s president and CEO.
This visit reaffirms the commitment and alliance that unites both companies, which have a long history as strategic partners, working together and accompanying technological evolution.
“Since 2018, we have been developing together with YPF different strategic axes that range from the provision of renewable electrical energy to the supply of fuels and joint participation in motorsports activities. The implementation of the Toyota Production System (TPS), with which we have been working together with other companies and institutions, will allow us to strengthen this alliance and continue exploring new opportunities for collaboration between both companies,” said Gustavo Salinas, president of Toyota Argentina.
Within the framework of the Strategic Plan that we announced at YPF, we seek to focus on the definition of world-class standards to be efficient, reduce costs and increase productivity.
YPF is the supplier of fuel and lubricants for the first filling of all Toyota vehicles and for its own fleet through YPF Ruta. Also, Toyota recommends the use of INFINIA in its vehicles because it has TOP TIER certification, exceeds the highest quality levels and allows the best performance of the most demanding engines. This link with Toyota also extends to the competition teams.
YPF LUZ is its electricity supplier, an agreement that allowed Toyota to be the first company to manufacture its cars with 100% renewable electricity.
