The collective rise of the Global South is a clear sign of major changes in the world, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday. It is a great event in world history and an unprecedented feat in the process of human civilization that countries in the Global South are moving towards modernization together, Xi noted.
Xi made the remarks while participating in the BRICS Plus leaders’ dialogue. The group’s countries should be a stabilizing force for peace, strengthen global security governance and explore ways to address both the symptoms and root causes of hotspot issues, he added.
The Global South emerges for development and prospers through development, he said, urging BRICS Plus countries to become the main driving force of common development. The group’s countries should play an active and leading role in reforming global economic governance and making development the center of the international economic and trade agenda, Xi added.
The president also said that China will coordinate with others to create an Alliance of Global South Think Tanks to promote people-to-people exchanges and experience-sharing in governance. No matter how the international scene evolves, China will always keep the Global South at heart and maintain its roots in the Global South, he added.
