Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that China should make solid planning for the period 2026 to 2030, continuing socialist modernization with extra attention to development and safety. The statement was made during a Symposium in Beijing about the country’s next five -year plan.

The meeting takes place while China enters the final stretch of the current 14th five-year plan (2021-2025). XI, who is also secretary general of the Communist Party of China and president of the Central Military Commission, argued that the new plan is aligned with the goal of transforming the country into a “great modern socialist nation” and the process of “national rejuvenation”.

The five -year plan is China’s main economic and social planning instrument, setting goals and guidelines for the next five years. Xi pointed out that strategies need to adapt to new external circumstances and risks, reinforcing the national security and stability of productive chains.

The Chinese president called for greater priority to technological innovation, the transformation of the real economy and the emergence of new quality productive forces. “We must transform and modernize traditional industries, develop emerging sectors and plan the sectors of the future in advance,” he said.

Also participating in the Symposium were Prime Minister Li Qiang and the director of the General Office of the Party Central Committee, Cai Qi. For the next cycle, the government intends to combine centralized governance with broad democratic participation, as occurred in the elaboration of the previous plan in 2020.
