The 2024 World Youth Development Forum opened in Beijing on Monday, International Youth Day, with more than 2,000 young people from over 130 countries and 20 international organizations participating online and in person.

More than 500 youth leaders and youth representatives gathered for the opening ceremony and plenary meeting of the forum. In the coming days, participants will also visit other Chinese cities, such as Nanning and Hangzhou, and participate in discussions on green development, digital development, cultural heritage and innovation, as well as youth-oriented cities.

At the opening ceremony, China’s top epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan shared his personal growth and work experience via video. Zhong said young people have become the vanguard and leading force in combating public health emergencies, whether it was SARS in 2003 or the COVID-19 pandemic more recently.
