China’s State Council Communication Department released a white paper titled “China’s Rural Roads in the New Era” on Friday to present the achievements and vision of the development of rural roads in the new era and share the experience of China.
The total length of rural roads reached 4.6 million kilometers by the end of 2023, an increase of 22% from 2013, enough to circle the equator 115 times, the white paper said.
So far, the country has implemented a rural transportation infrastructure network in which district roads connect rural and urban areas, village roads intersect, and village roads facilitate travel between households and farmland, according to the book white.
According to the white paper, the construction and development of rural roads provides strong support for comprehensive socioeconomic development in China’s rural areas.
Improved transportation has eliminated bottlenecks that had long delayed economic and social development in deprived areas and laid a solid foundation for the rural population to achieve moderate prosperity in all aspects, the book said.
