The company’s Bitcoin Network Event Index has fallen 15 %since its summit in November 2024, reaching the lowest level since February 2024. This index monitors active addresses, operations, block sizes and fees to measure general Bitcoin use.

An important driving force of low network activity is a sharp decrease in Bitcoin processes.

• Daily transactions decreased to 346,000 with a decrease of 53 %from the highest level of 734,000 recorded last September.
• Bitcoin Mempool, a queue consisting of unapproved transactions, fell to 3,000 from the 287,000 level in December to 3,000 as of today and pointed to the levels that have not been seen since March 2022.

Cryptoquant attributed this slowdown to a decrease in the use of Runes protocol, a method introduced to directly replaceable tokens on Bitcoin in April 2024.
