Chinese steel company, Jinnan Steel Group, and Brazilian mining giant, Vale, announced this Sunday the establishment of a cooperation partnership. The two sides will establish an iron ore concentrating plant in the port and free zone of Sohar in Oman.
It is estimated that the factory will enter into operation in mid-2027, and should process 18 million tons of iron ore and produce 12.6 million high-quality concentrates. This will provide high-quality iron ore for the production of pellets and pellets in the region.
According to Gustavo Pimenta, CEO of Vale, the Sohar iron ore concentration plant represents a key investment by Vale, as the company is strengthening its ability to meet growing global demand for high-quality iron ore.
The project combines the advantages of Brazil’s high-quality iron ore production ability with Oman’s excellent geographic location and facilities, while cooperation with Jinnan Steel Group also strengthens the partnership with China, he said.
“The steel industry is the pillar of industry and infrastructure, and its healthy and sustainable development is vital for the national economy and the lives of the population. Close cooperation with Vale helps Jinnan’s steady progress in green and low-carbon development. Vale’s concept of carbon reduction and commitment to social responsibility is fully in line with our own,” said Zhang Tianfu, CEO of Jinnan Steel Group.
“Sohar Port connects businesses and the world. This investment is a key step in our long-term strategy to attract high-value projects in Oman and foster a business-friendly environment,” said Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of Sohar Port.
