Japanese Shoma Uno, two-time world figure skating champion, will end his competitive career at the age of 26, he announced this Thursday on Instagram.
“I made the decision to withdraw from official competitions. I want to thank everyone who has supported me so far,” said the 26-year-old athlete in the caption to a photograph of him.
Recalling that he started skating at the age of five, Shoma Uno puts an end to his career, after being fourth in the 2024 World Championships, in Montreal, Canada, where he was looking to obtain a third consecutive title, admitting that he had difficulty finding motivation in the last two epochs.
In addition to the two world titles, Shoma Uno also won two silver medals at the World Championships and other medals at the Winter Olympic Games, with silver in the individual competition in Pyeongchang2018 and bronze in Beijing2022.
Uno announced his abandonment after his compatriot Yuzuru Hanyu, double Olympic and world champion, left the professional rinks in 2022 to dedicate himself to skating exhibitions and tours.
