Running north to south through the heart of the Chinese capital, Beijing’s Central Axis serves as the city’s cultural and historical “backbone.” Along it, we find a series of ancient imperial palaces, gardens, sacrificial structures, and ceremonial and public buildings.
They are all sites that bear witness to the evolution of Beijing and demonstrate China’s imperial dynastic system and its urban planning traditions.
