Tesla’s megafactory in Shanghai, which began construction at the end of May, is expected to complete construction by the end of this year, according to Tesla China. The factory will be dedicated to the production of the company’s energy storage batteries, Megapacks, with mass production scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
With an area of ​​approximately 200 thousand square meters, the new plant represents a total investment of around 1.45 billion yuan (approximately R$1.3 million), according to information from the administration of the Lin-gang Special Area of ​​the Pilot Zone of Shanghai Free Trade. Initial production will be 10,000 units annually, which is equivalent to around 40 GWh of energy storage.
This will be the first megafactory built by Tesla outside the United States and the company’s second plant in Shanghai, following the opening of its gigafactory in 2019.
