Beijing’s two main airports, Internacional Capital and Internacional Daxing, recorded a record of tax reimbursement for foreign tourists between January and April this year. In total, customs processed about 369 million yuans (US $ 51 million), an increase of 79.4% over the same period of 2023.
Tax reimbursement on the country is a policy that returns the Value Added Tax (VAT) to foreigners who buy products in authorized stores and leave China. The measure has been reinforced with facilitation actions at airports and greater integration between public and private agencies.
According to the authorities, the advance is directly linked to the visa exemption policy for 240 hours, which expanded the flow of international visitors. In the first four months of the year, Beijing received 7 million entry and exit passengers, and supervised more than 40,000 flights, both with growths above 20% compared to 2023.
During the Labor Day holiday, the number of reimbursement requests grew 105%, while the total returned amount jumped almost 156%. To handle the demand, Customs has created new service counters and has been promoting guidance on the process on digital platforms and panels at the terminals.
