Taiwan’s first overseas chip personnel training headquarters to be in Prague

Taiwan’s National Science Council launched the Taiwan Chip-Based Industrial Innovation Program in 2023, which combines the advantages of generative artificial intelligence and semiconductor chip design and manufacturing to benefit the country’s technology industry.

Minister of the National Science and Technology Council Wu Tsung-tsong announced that after careful planning, the first overseas headquarters to train international personnel in chip design will soon be established in Prague.

Wu explained that the facility would serve four functions: deepen overseas cooperation and exchange, as well as assist in industrial applications; expand personnel resources and opportunities for Taiwan’s chip design industry; accelerate exchanges in international startups by diversifying communication channels; and help companies link with international industrial-academic partners and the global market.

Europe’s strong scientific education and potential for high-quality MSc and PhD research staff make it a perfect candidate for the first overseas IC design headquarters.

Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, enjoys close proximity to European universities, has a level of internationalization and, therefore, great potential for future development, the minister stated.

The project will not only provide more international development opportunities for Taiwan, but also promote prosperity and mutual benefits between the Asian nation and the international semiconductor industry chain, becoming a driving force for sustainable innovation in the global industry. of semiconductors.

The Taiwan Semiconductor Research Center (TSRI) of the National Applied Research Laboratories has a complete supply line, from student training and design to production. On April 18, he is expected to sign a contract for the installation of an office with the Czech Technical University in Prague. Starting with the training of personnel in chip design, it will be the first innovation and design headquarters abroad.
