Taiwan and France recently concluded a cooperation agreement that deepens joint work in the arts, underlining the two sides’ commitment to integrating creative resources, Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture (MOC) said.
The agreement was signed by Nikky Lin, director of the National Museum of Taiwanese Literature (NMTL) and Cécile Renault, head of culture, university cooperation and education at the French Office in Taipei (FOT).

New artistic opportunities in Taiwan for the French-speaking community

Under the agreement, artists from France and other French-speaking countries are invited to complete artist residencies in Taiwan. The presence of visiting artists is expected to provide locals with a greater understanding of the global French-speaking community, the MOC said.

Among the projects in which Francophones are encouraged to participate is the Formosa Art Residency launched in April 2023 by the FOT. The program is open to creatives in the fields of writing, publishing and extended reality. The Taiwanese Ministry of Culture added that NMTL representatives will also be able to participate in the selection of applicants following the new agreement.

The NMTL is dedicated to building international connections through literature, the ministry said. The museum collaborates with Taiwan’s Alliance Française to hold a month of France-related cultural activities every March, and its residential writing program at the Taiwan Literature Base in Taipei City has hosted writers from China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong and the United States, it added.
