North Korea launched several short-range missiles in the Japan sea on Thursday, said the South Korean (JCS) joint state, which believes it is ballistic missiles.

The launches were detected by the South Korea military around 08:10 (00h10 in Lisbon).

“In preparation for possible additional releases, our forces intensified surveillance and alerting measures,” said JCS.

South Korea is “narrowly sharing information related to apparent North Korean ballistic missiles with United States and Japan authorities, maintaining a state of full readiness,” he added.

The Korea Peninsula, in northeastern Asia, is divided between North Korea and South Korea, which crashed a war between 1950 and 1953.

Pyongyang and Seoul remain technically at war, since they have never signed a peace agreementalthough an armistice allowed the fighting to cease.
