In accordance with Directive No. 05/CT-TTg dated February 14, 2024, of the Prime Minister on ensuring the supply of electricity, and a sufficient amount of coal and gas for power generation, and to support EVN during peak dry season of 2024, on March 29, 2024, PV GAS signed a contract to sell about 70 thousand tons of LNG to EVN. The volume of LNG will be supplied to the Phu My 3 thermal power plant in the period April-May 2024, contributing approximately 500 million kWh to the electrical system. The urgency of supplementing imported LNG for power generation clearly demonstrates the role and commitment of PV GAS in ensuring national energy security.

PV GAS, whose shares are almost 95.76% owned by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), is the main entity entrusted by the Party and State of Vietnam to lead the national gas industry within the framework of the implementation of a competitive energy market, in line with Decision No. 2233/QD-TTg of December 28, 2020 of the Prime Minister.

To date, PV GAS has been the first and only company qualified for the import and export of LNG, at the same time owning a complete LNG infrastructure system in Vietnam, operational since July 2023.

The introduction of LNG PV GAS for electricity production in Vietnam, at a time of dwindling existing fuel sources in the country, affirms the Corporation’s commitment to contribute to the Nation’s energy security, in line with the guidelines of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 05/CT-TTg dated February 14, 2024.

The Al Jassasiya vessel is scheduled to supply nearly 70 thousand tons of LNG from Ras Laffan, Qatar, scheduled to arrive at the Vung Tau PV GAS Terminal on April 11, 2024. Once again, the spirit of “Bringing values ​​to life” in PV GAS’ journey towards green energy.

With the support of the Ministries and State Agencies, as well as Petrovietnam, in the coming times, PV GAS will actively support and be together with the Authorities to resolve the political knots related to the mechanisms and infrastructure in the implementation of LNG products in Vietnam, contributing to the construction of a transparent and sustainable LNG trading market.
