Steven Lam

Co-founder, GoGoVan
Location: Hong Kong

Steven Lam has always worked at the convergence of technology and transport in one way or another. After dropping out of high school, the Hong Kong-born entrepreneur studied in the US, putting himself through UC Berkley by selling second-hand iPhones and bicycles. After moving back to Hong Kong and starting a company selling ads on food takeaway boxes, he co-founded Gogovan— the online logistics platform that’s been dubbed “Uber for vans”—with two friends and a combined HK$20,000 of savings. Just four years later, in summer 2017, Gogovan’s merger with Chinese freight giant 58 Suyun turned the company into Hong Kong’s first ‘unicorn’—a start-up worth more than US$1 billion—and turned Lam into the poster boy for the city’s entrepreneurial community.
