Siobhán Haughey

Olympic swimmer
Location: Hong Kong

Determination and dedication fuel swimmer Siobhán Haughey. Something has to get her through her day, which kicks off with a two-hour swim at 5am, followed by a full day of classes at the University of Michigan, where she is studying psychology with health and medicine. She then returns to the pool for another two hours and completes one hour of land training before tackling homework. Clearly, being a student athlete isn’t easy, but pushing mind and body to their limits makes Siobhán stronger. So much so that she became the rst female swimmer from Hong Kong to qualify for the semi-finals at any Olympic Games, representing Hong Kong in Rio de Janeiro. In 2017 she was the fifth fastest female swimmer in the 200-metre freestyle at the Aquatics World Championships. The path ahead for her is clear: 2018 Asian Games, followed by the 2019 World Championships and then, the ultimate target, the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.
