Gloria Tang (Gem)
One of Hong Kong’s bestselling musical artists, 27-year-old Gloria comes from a musical family (her mother is a graduate of Shanghai’s Conservatory of Music, her uncle a violinist, her grandfather an orchestral saxophonist and her grandmother taught her to sing). But her route to musical success was anything but classical. Often referred to by her stage name, GEM (for Get Everybody Moving), Gloria caught the attention of music honchos at the tender age of 16 when she won the Spice It Up competition. Signed by Hummingbird Music, she released her first EP, GEM, in 2008, which stormed the charts and earned her the nickname “young diva with giant lungs.” She released her first full length album, 18, in the middle of 2009, quickly following it up with her second, My Secret. The singer-songwriter recently concluded the first leg of her Queen of Hearts tour, which will continue through 2019 with an array of new songs.
