Chen Feiyu was born into a family of artists. His grandfather Chen Huaikai was a noted movie director in China, and the film Farewell My Concubine, directed by his father Chen Kaige, won a number of awards including the Golden Palm at Cannes Film Festival, and an American Golden Globe, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Feiyu’s mother, Chen Hong, is a famous producer and actor. Feiyu was destined to follow in the footsteps of his parents. He began learning piano at the age of five. In 2007, he acted in the short film Cinema directed by Chen Kaige to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival; in 2009, he portrayed the young king in the film The Orphan of Zhao; and in 2016, he joined the film crew of Legend of the Demon Cat as an intern to develop his craft. In 2017, Secret Fruit marked his big screen debut, and his performance won wide acclaim from both inside and outside the industry. In 2018, Feiyu starred in Legend of Awakening, an ancient fantasy drama based on the novel of the same name written by Butterfly Blue.
