Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 1/2 cup of oat flour (just blend the rolled oats in a blender until they become flour)

  • 1 and 1/2 cups of warm water

  • 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons (1 sachet) of dry biological yeast

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats for sprinkling

Preparation mode

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, honey (or brown sugar) and active dry yeast. Let sit for about 10 minutes, until the mixture becomes foamy.
  • In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, rolled oats, oat flour, and salt.
  • Add the vegetable oil and activated yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix well until a smooth dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • After the first fermentation, punch the dough to remove excess air. Shape the dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan.
  • Cover the pan with a damp cloth and let the dough rest for another 30 to 45 minutes, until it rises again.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Before baking, sprinkle rolled oats over the surface of the bread.
  • Place the bread in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
